Overview

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Phenoxyethanol is an organic compound with molecular formula C8H10O2, which can be synthesized by etherification of ethylene glycol and phenol.

Phenoxyethanol is a colorless, slightly viscous liquid with an aromatic odor, slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in ethanol and sodium hydroxide.

Phenoxyethanol has antimicrobial properties (usually used with quaternary ammonium salts) and is often used in biological buffer solutions as a substitute for the highly toxic sodium azide, since phenoxyethanol has a low toxicity profile and is chemically inactive towards copper and lead. It commonly functions as a preservative in cosmetics, skin care products, vaccines and pharmaceuticals.

PRODUCT USES

Phenoxyethanol, used as a fixative in perfumes, as an insect repellent, as a topical disinfectant, as a solvent for cellulose acetate, in dyes, inks, resins, as a preservative, and in other pharmaceutical applications. It is also used as an anesthetic for fish in the aquaculture industry. It is also listed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as one of the ingredients in many U.S. vaccines. In Japan, the amount of phenoxyethanol used in cosmetics is monitored.

Phenoxyethanol is a high boiling point, low volatility solvent, oily liquid at room temperature, slightly aromatic odor and astringent taste. It is also a hypoallergenic, broad-spectrum and highly efficient antiseptic and fungicide, which can be dissolved in both water and oil, and is easy to use, thus it has been used more and more frequently in the light industry in recent years.

In addition, phenoxyethanol in other industries is also a great use, such as the need for penetration of the mold, engraving, printing table and ballpoint pen ink solvent; used as cellulose acetate, resins, dyes, photographic materials, etc., ideal solvent; used as a gas chromatography fixative, chromatographic analysis of the standard; used as a soap cosmetic fixative, diluent; also used as fish anesthetics, so that the fish sedative, reduce activities, reduce CO It is also used as fish anesthetics to sedate fish, reduce their activities, lower oxygen consumption, reduce the excretion of CO and NH3, and facilitate transportation, catalyzing and other operations.

1.Solvent

Phenoxyethanol has good solubility and miscibility, often used as a diluent of spices, is a better solvent for hair color and nail polish color and penetrant, ink, ballpoint pen oil solvent and improver and penetrant for printing ink.

2.Antiseptic and bactericidal

Phenoxyethanol has a special inhibitory effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and it has an inhibitory effect on both gram-positive and negative bacteria. As it has considerable solubility in water, white mineral oil, isopropyl acetate of palmitic acid and other cosmetic components. Coupled with its high efficiency and broad spectrum, low toxicity and non-allergic irritation (2.2% aqueous solution is non-irritating to the skin), it is widely used in cosmetic creams and shampoos.
