PRODUCT

Overview

PRODUCT PROPERTIES

Dull orthorhombic crystalline powder. It has a strong ammonia smell and is generally not available in anhydrous salt. The industrial product is actually a complex salt of ammonium bicarbonate and ammonium carbamate, containing 31% ammonia and 56% carbon dioxide; soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, carbon disulfide and concentrated ammonia water. It is unstable in the air and will gradually turn into ammonium bicarbonate and ammonium carbamate. The dry substance is easily decomposed at 58°C, releasing ammonia and carbon dioxide. The aqueous solution begins to decompose at 70-C. It is unstable to light and heat and is slightly hygroscopic.

USES

Fertilizer: Ammonium carbonate is often used as a nitrogen fertilizer and is used in agriculture to promote plant growth.

Chemical experiments: Ammonium carbonate is often used in neutralization reactions in chemical experiments, and can also be used to adjust the pH value of the solution.

PREPARATION METHOD

There are many methods for preparing ammonium carbonate. One of the common methods is to generate ammonium carbonate by reacting ammonia and carbon dioxide. The specific steps include passing ammonia into water, then adding carbon dioxide, and evaporating water after the reaction is completed to obtain ammonium carbonate.
